Quite a few interesting presentations and literatures to read and comment on. From Trish’s, to Carol, Becky’s, Ali’s and then Michael’s presentation. I have also completed the quizzes in blackboard, continued to work on my technology project for Bangor high. I am looking forward to reviewing what has been done to date with the classroom teacher and hopefully be able to present a summary on the project to the class on December 3rd. I am not sure this is going to happen anyway since a number of people beat me to the request. Let us wait and see…
Activities for the week of November 19th…
November 24, 2007 by bolutbte415Week of November 12th…
November 24, 2007 by bolutbte415A very busy week for me in many areas of life. To my utmost surprise, I received the evaluation copy of the textbook I had requested from the publisher. This is the textbook I intended to incorporate in my technology design for high school students at Bangor High. I am excited about the book but I have to figure out how to filter the information so as to benefit the audience the most and because I have already detailed my content prior the book’s arrival, it is important that I carefully make modifications to accommodate the textbook. This is keeping me busy for the week.
Week of November 5th…
November 12, 2007 by bolutbte415I completed quizzes on Blackboard. I read most of the literature and or tools presentatation while I commented on two of them. I was fascinated with the Quia presented in class and curious to know why the classroom teacher has to pay out of pocket for such a useful tool that is been used for her class management. I did not do too much with my technology project this week since I was still waiting to hear back from the publisher of the textbook I was looking at as a reference for the course. I will be requesting that my in-class teacher bring me her current textbook as an alternate reference for the course.
Week of October 29th..
November 12, 2007 by bolutbte415My focus was on fine tunning my technology portfolio to refllect some of the discussions I had with the classroom teacher. I was finally able to define all the details of hands-on activities to be covered for the project which is based on Word 2003. This is the actual learning that takes place during class sessions which requires that students complete some steps and thereby learn by doing. I am in the process of also creating assessments and projects that will validate learning of the material. I decided to consult a textbook: Special Edition Using Microsoft Office Word 2003 as a reference for my design. I contacted the publisher for an evaluation copy of the book and they needed authorization from department chair or dean. I have since contacted Dr. Hammond for this approval but I am yet to hear back from the publisher about approval or denial of the request.
Activities for week of 25th to October 1st.
November 12, 2007 by bolutbte415The week started rather slowly but was full of activites, I have been working on fine tunning my project work which is focused on identifying, addressing, and evaluating a problem-based learning experience in a high school. Details such as objectives, activities, and goals are in advanced stage. I created my podcast assignment which demonstrates a completing a few common tasks using Microsoft Office – Word 2007. The work will be located in my webspace at http://www.lehigh.edu/~odo206/podcast1. I also completed the quizzes on blackboard for TPCK and “digital divide and disconnect”. I plan to comment on some of my course mate’s blog as they become available.
Week of October, 22nd.
October 29, 2007 by bolutbte415I had my presentation for technology tool and the literature review in succession. I am glad this is all behind me now. On Wednesday 24th I had completed a review of both handouts and visuals and sent all to Dr. Hammond for posting on the class blog. I worked on my technology in classroom project and sent a first draft to the classroom teacher who also promptly returned the same with many positive feedback and suggestions. I have since been working on fine -tunning the draft to make it look much like the teacher wants the design to be. I also completed the quiz on Extra-curricular patterns of use, reviewed Dr. Hammond’s quiz review for HTML, ZPD, and scafolding. The same was returned with my comments. I was trying to get a professional evaluation copy of the textbook that I would like to reference for my technology in classroom but a referee was required prompting me to place a call to TCH. Well, this is my tit-bits.
Demet’s Podcast
October 19, 2007 by bolutbte415I listened to and commented on Demet’s podcast#2. A good example to follow. Meanwhile, I was also able to listen to the Digital Campus “Wikipedia: Friends or Foe.” I had to break it down listening to separate sections of it and pausing in between. I had to do that because the discussion is very interesting and conversational, I think was able to listen to the entire podcast after three breaks pausing in between. I wondered if they had practice session leading to the recording. No doubt a model to emulate.
General update on Tech. Project
October 19, 2007 by bolutbte415My technology in the classroom project in focused on designing for grade 9-12 at Bangor High School. The objective is to teach beginning and intermediate skills in Office 2003-Word using hands-on instructional projects. The goal is to allow students work within the Microsoft Word Application by using it to complete a series of projects leading them to master the application program immediately. They will learn problem solving techniques while working through projects that provide practical and real life situations students can relate to. Learn by doing has proven to be an effective way of teaching technology skills based on my personal experience.
While it had been difficult to find time to actually be in the classroom, plan technology implementation to improve teaching and learning, I thought it may be a good idea to visit my targeted school and students sometime during this project design. I feel that this may completely change or influence the project design.
Instructional Plan: The teacher will demonstrate the application program to the students on the first day of class with a set of hand holding which is then followed by a series of sample work that the students can follow from their computer station. Subsequent classroom sessions will be project based, students will be handed printed project-based activities. The activities will require students to learn by doing and working through the projects. Completed works should be printed out in the specified format and turned in for grading. The teacher will be available as a facilitator and guide for any student during class meetings.
So far, I know exactly what to focus on throughout the project and with an OK from the classroom teacher details will be provided as they become available. I would highlight some of these areas in my podcast #2. It would be interesting to see what the end product of several weeks of creativity will look like.
Oct. 2nd-8th
October 14, 2007 by bolutbte415Here I am trying to refocus my attention on the business at hand (school work and secular work), it has not been very easy to refocus on these things. I have not been hospitalised ever since I’ve known myself, so last week was a rude shock to me and many that knew me. Get Well cards came from friends and there was no lack of visitation at my bedside.
A wake up call came from TCH about my podcast (where can I find your podcast)? I had little or no motivation to get my works done. I finally posted my podcast, managed to send email to my classroom teacher for the k-12 classroom access. I’m sure she must be wondering what is going on since my last email said I will be sending a summary of my technology project for her class shortly. Shortly has been a little over a week, now I am getting there and the pacing break was very timely for me.
Finally, you may now view my podcast here. Thank you for your patience.
Activities for week of 25th-Oct. 1st
October 14, 2007 by bolutbte415I was full of enthusiasm and pacing myself with the course work. Friday night, I did not sleep well at all and as I endured through the night I got no sleep forcing me to go to hospital emergency room for immediate attention. It was a strange pain radiating through my chest and shoulder blades. I ended up spending the weekend on admission in the hospital. No it was not a heart attack and definitely not an alarming condition. I was on IV and no food or drinks for three day as the doctors try to diagnose the cause of my pain. It turned out to be Gastritis. I thought I will be out of the hospital in a few hours, but it was not to be.
I watched as the clock ticked away on October 1st imagining what was going on in the technology in school setting class. I had my podcast completed earlier in the week and was supposed to upload the files the same weekend I was hospitalised. Right now I am still trying to catch up with class work and other life necessities. It was a shame that I was completely removed from technology in the environment I found myself even with my laptop, there was no wireless signal within reach. This was indeed a shock because I assumed wireless signal is everywhere you turn to nowadays. I was proved wrong.
My activity for the week (17-24 Sept.)
September 24, 2007 by bolutbte415Finally, I think I have a “placement” for my k-12 classroom access. I will be working with Becky’s classroom as we develop some challenge activities that will engage students in learning using technology. The focus is on basic and advanced activities using Word. I will not let the cat out of the bag for now.
I viewed and commented on a number of the existing presentations. I found the topics and presentations very interesting. I viewed Michael’s presentation but had nothing to say because I did not see the software in action or demonstrated. I have not used the software either. However, I feel it is a very good tool to have. I believed I also missed most of Lifang’s presentation or the more informative part.
My activities for the week Sept. 10-15th
September 16, 2007 by bolutbte415I read and commented on Becky’s brainstorm ideas. However, I cannot see my comments anymore, may be Becky can help direct us to where the comment is. I do not know who to contact or when and where to make a contact yet since my work schedule will not allow me to meet with a classroom teacher during school hours. I am looking into Kompozer as an open source HTML editor along with Dreamweaver 8.
I have also read through the class activity log in order to keep track of where we are. I went over the project design documentation. I am not sure what to expect regarding my brainstorm post, anyone want to post a comment? Thanks.

Brainstorm for a project topic
September 10, 2007 by bolutbte415With my current circumstance regarding access to k-12 classroom, I believe working with iMovie or Garageband as a tool for enhancing teaching and learning is a possibility. There is also a possibility for elluminate depending on availability.

My access to a K12 classroom
September 7, 2007 by bolutbte415I work 8 to 5pm (M-F) at the university. I do not have any access to a k12 classroom and will not be able to leave work Monday-Friday before 5pm. I will be willing to meet with any arrangement(s) on weekends or after work hours. Therefore, I will need help getting matched up with a classroom otherwise I may have access to professors at the university.
